Who we are
The Hunter Gender Alliance is a Newcastle-based charity working to improve the rights, health and lives of transgender, gender diverse and non-binary people in our region and beyond. We’re community-led and community driven, and pride ourselves on events and ideas by our community, for our community. We’re connected throughout the Hunter New England Health District, New South Wales, Australia.
Our History
We’ve been proudly supporting the trans and gender diverse community since 2015.
In 2015, a small special interest group was established called the Hunter Centre for Sex and Gender Diversity. We aimed to improve access to services for trans and gender diverse people in the Hunter-New England region.
From the early days of this meeting of 10 people, we’ve grown in numbers, reach and impact.
In 2017, we rebranded to “Hunter Gender Alliance”. What hasn’t changed is that we’re community led, we put the voices of TGD people first, and we are a genuine alliance between health care professionals and the community. We’ve now grown to being a registered charity, with Donateable Gift Recipient (DRG) status.
