Let’s Talk Stories: “What Is A Story?” transcription

What is a story?

A story is a collection of words that express an idea – that make the listener feel and experience something, just by reading or hearing the story. A story has a teller – a person who’s expressing the tale – and an audience, who’s receiving the experience, emotions and ideas from the story.

We tell stories all the time – to illustrate a point, to explain something to our friends, families and loved ones, to share something funny or sad or interesting that happened to us.

Stories are important because they are the ways in which we connect to each other.

Telling our stories to others, or to ourselves, is how we understand the world. Reading stories from people like us, from our community, brings us together.

The more stories we can tell, the stronger we are together.

The more stories we can share, the more people we can bring together.

The stories we tell and share with each other, help each other.

If you’re trans or gender diverse, chances are hearing someone’s story has helped you at some point.

So, we created “Let’s Talk Stories” to hear from, share with, and help as many people as possible.
